… is a paid, non-Equity theatre company committed to creating a healthy and inclusive space for artists of all races, cultures, ages and backgrounds. Artists are paid on a per performance basis
General Information:
Auditions are held at TheatreFor (unless otherwise noted): located in the Sunset Square Shopping Center, at the corner of Sunset Point and Highland Ave., 1863 N Highland Ave, Clearwater, FL 33755
Unless specified, auditions will be cold readings from the script, often with multiple auditioners being evaluated together in combined readings. Any given audition may be for a single show or may be conducted by directors of multiple shows.
At each director’s discretion, video auditions and requests for dates other than the published ones may be arranged. Email auditions@theatrefor.com with your request. Audition reservations, headshots, and resumes are suggested but not required.

AUDITION NOTICE - THE REVOLUTIONISTS

TheatreFor and director Graham Jones are excited to announce auditions for the roles of Olympe de Gouges and Charlotte Corday in the upcoming production of The Revolutionists by Lauren Gunderson.

CASTING
Olympe de Gouges (38) is a playwright, feminist, and passionate believer in the power of words. Brilliant, excitable, theatrical, and funny, she is struggling to write something that matters while the French Revolution threatens to swallow everyone around her. Her fierce convictions compete with writer’s block, self-doubt, and a very understandable desire to stay alive.
It’s a leading role with a rich balance of comedy and emotional depth. The actor needs verbal agility, strong comic timing, and the ability to move from expansive theatricality to intimate vulnerability. Olympe’s journey asks what it costs an artist to stop observing history and become part of it.
Charlotte Corday (25) is a young woman from the country who arrives in Paris determined to assassinate Jean-Paul Marat. Intense, direct, impatient, and fiercely certain of her purpose, she wants Olympe to help her find the words by which she will be remembered. Beneath her righteous resolve is a young woman confronting fear, loneliness, and the enormity of her decision.
The actor needs sharp comic timing, strong presence, and emotional openness. Charlotte’s humor often comes from her absolute seriousness; her vulnerability must be as convincing as her courage. This is a substantial role combining forceful conviction with moments of tenderness and fear.
The roles of Marie Antoinette and Marianne Angelle have been cast.

ABOUT THE PLAY
Lauren Gunderson’s The Revolutionists is an irreverent, fiercely funny comedy set in Paris during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. A playwright, an assassin, a former queen, and a Haitian freedom fighter come together as the world around them grows increasingly dangerous. Armed with wit, conviction, and occasionally a knife, they wrestle with friendship, freedom, and who gets to tell their stories. Bold contemporary language and outrageous comedy give way to moments of courage, connection, and heartbreak.

CASTING
Matilde is a young Brazilian woman hired as a housekeeper, though she hates cleaning and dreams of becoming a comedian. She is intelligent, emotionally perceptive, imaginative, and quietly rebellious, with a refined deadpan wit. Beneath her humor, she carries profound grief over the deaths of her parents.
It's a leading role with a rich balance of comedy and pathos. The actor needs excellent comic timing, especially the ability to make stillness and understatement funny, along with the emotional depth to handle grief, intimacy, and mortality. Matilde is the play's poetic center: an outsider who gradually becomes deeply connected to everyone around her.
The role is specifically written as Brazilian, and Matilde speaks both Portuguese and English.
In addition to the usual stipend, TheatreFor will pay for subscriptions to one or more apps to help the actor learn Portuguese.

ABOUT THE PLAY
Sarah Ruhl's The Clean House is a funny, tender play about the messiness of love and the ways we live with loss. Lane, a doctor, hires Matilde to clean her home, but Matilde would rather invent the perfect joke. When Lane's sister secretly takes over the housework and Lane's husband falls in love with a patient, their orderly world unravels. Everyday life gives way to unexpected connections and moments of magic, with laughter never far from grief.
